This is part of our reprints series. Renaud of Montauban is based on the text of the 1897 illustrated edition. This edition was edited and abridged by Robert Steele from Caxton's Foure Sonnes of Aymon published in the late 15th century which in turn was based on an earlier French Les Quatre Fils Aymon. Renaud and his brothers, formerly the pride of Charlemagne's court, are involved in a long-term and tragic vendetta with the king. The story shows the limits and excesses of Charlemagne's absolute power. Read more about Renaud of Montauban.
